Custom domain for Starter Site

Starter Site allows you to change its web address (URL), so that it reflects the name of your store or brand and your customers can easily find it in the organic search results.

By default, each Starter Site is available as a subdomain of address: for example,, where ‘XXXXXX’ is the ID of your store.

You can change the subdomain part and use your store name instead or buy a totally custom domain name and connect it to your Starter Site.

There are provides free SSL protection for all subdomains and custom domains, connected to the Starter Site, so that all Starter Sites always have https:// links.

If you have your store installed on your own website and want to have https:// links, you need to protect your website with SSL.

Using a subdomain at

If you do not have your own domain name yet, you can use the subdomain for the Starter Site for free. In this case the Starter Site link will start with your custom name and end with, e.g.

You can choose a name for your address at, when you edit your Starter Site's content.

To change the Starter Site link:

  1. Go to your store Control Panel → Starter Site.
  2. Click Change URL in the Starter Site address section:

  1. Type in your desired name in the Use our subdomain field.
  2. Click Save.

Using your own domain name

If you own a domain and want to have your Starter Site there, you can just connect your domain to your Starter Site. We will provide SSL for your domain for free, so your site will run via HTTPS.

To connect your domain to Starter Site, you will need to make changes both in your store Control Panel and in your domain registrar admin area.

In your store Control Panel

  1. Go to your store Control Panel → Starter Site.
  2. Scroll down to Change Your Starter Site Address.
  3. Click Change URL:

  1. In the pop-up click in the field under Use your own domain name and enter your domain there:

  1. Copy the IP address you see in your Control Panel:

  1. Log in to your domain registrar's control panel. If you do not know who your domain registrar is, check out the article on how to find it out.
  2. Create an A-record for your domain and point it to the IP-address you copied from your store Control Panel.
  3. To make your Starter Site available at as well, create a CNAME record for your domain and specify www as a name/alias for it. You will need to add the following to DNS record:
    www IN CNAME @ or www IN CNAME
  4. If you are not sure how to make these changes, please contact your domain registrar support.
Changes will take effect in 2 hours automatically. Once the setup is completed, your Starter Site will become available at the specified addresses via a secure HTTPS connection encrypted by an SSL certificate.
