Before you get started

Make sure you meet the following requirements in order to start selling on Facebook:

  1. You need to have a Facebook Business page. The page should be published and you need to have an admin role for the page. If you don’t have a Facebook Business page, create one on Facebook.
  2. Your products must comply with the Facebook Commerce Policy.
  3. You need to sell in a currency that is supported by Facebook.

Once you meet all of the requirements, you can proceed to connect your online store to your Facebook page.

Catalog requirements

According to Facebook’s guidelines for listing products in the Shop tab of your page, there is no limit on the number of products you can list.

You can list only physical products, digital products are not allowed by Facebook. Your products must not be prohibited by Facebook Commerce Policies.

Each product must have at least one image and a description. The product description can’t be written in ALL CAPS.

You can’t list products with no commercial interest or with zero prices. The product price can’t have a price longer than 9 digits.

Connecting your online store

To connect your online store with Facebook, follow these simple steps:

  1. In your Control Panel go to Sales Channels → Facebook Shop and click + Connect page:

  1. Log in to your Facebook profile and select the Business page where the Shop section will be added. Once you have selected the profile, click Save:
  2. Accept the Facebook Merchant Commerce Terms and allow a few moments for Online store to sync your product catalog with the Facebook Shop.
  3. You will receive a note once your online store is successfully connected:

  1. When your store is connected, Facebook will approve your products. This may take up to 48 hours, though the review process is usually completed much faster.

In the meantime, you can visit your Facebook Shop by clicking the View page button. The uploaded products will be marked as Processing, which means Facebook is currently reviewing them.

Updating product details

When your products have been uploaded to Facebook, your catalog will sync with Facebook automatically once a day to ensure your Facebook Shop is up to date.

If you want to update the products and can’t wait for an auto-update, you can launch the sync manually in your Control Panel.

  1. Go to your Control Panel → Sales Channels → Facebook Shop.
  2. Click Update Product Catalog:

Are there any requirements for product images?

Yes, Facebook requires you to have at least one image for each product. The image must display the product itself, it can't be an illustration or an icon of the product.

Facebook recommends using images in the square format with 1024 x 1024 resolution or higher.

Facebook doesn’t allow to use the images that contain:

  • text (calls to action, promo codes)
  • offensive content (nudity, explicit language, violence)
  • advertising or promotional material
  • watermarks
  • time-sensitive information (limited time price drops)

Can I upload just one category to the Facebook Shop?

Sorry, this is not possible yet. At the moment Online store syncs all enabled products. If the product is in stock or out of stock, but the option “Hide out of stock products” is disabled, it will be uploaded to your Facebook Shop.

How will my customers' checkout?

Your customers can browse the products right in your Facebook Shop and will be redirected to your online store for completing the checkout.

Can I connect my online store to several Facebook pages?

No, this is not possible. The integration allows connecting an online store to a single Facebook page.

How can I promote the products in my Facebook Shop?

Once Facebook has reviewed the products in your Facebook Shop, you can set up an ads campaign for promoting them in the Facebook Ads Manager. In case you don’t know how to do it, you can refer to the guide to create ads for help.

When choosing an objective for your ads campaign, select Product Catalog Sales from the list. Ads of this kind will automatically show products from your product catalog based on your target audience.

How do I know that I got a sale on Facebook?

The orders that have been placed from your Facebook Shop will be available in the Order history in your Control Panel → My Sales → Orders. Just like with regular sales, you will be notified about the new orders via email or by push messages in the mobile app.

Can I use the legacy app for Facebook together with the Facebook Shop section?

Yes, you can. The legacy application for Facebook is still operational and you can continue using it. Still, we do recommend to switch to the Facebook Shop section unless your products are prohibited by Facebook Commerce Policies. The Facebook Shop tab will be visible on all devices, whereas the legacy app for Facebook is for desktop users only. Still, you can use both and decide what you like the best.

How is Facebook Shop different than the Facebook Store app I already use?

The existing Facebook Store app doesn’t show your products on mobile devices, which is how most people use Facebook.

Also, the existing Facebook Store app only adds a Shop tab to your business page, while the new Facebook Shop section appears as a larger section on your main Facebook Business Page, meaning more people will be able to easily discover your products.

Finally, the new Shop section includes a subscribe button that notifies your followers when you add new products.
